# How does Expressiveness work in ElevenReader?

Expressiveness controls how much emotion and variation the selected voice uses while reading.

Choose from three levels:

* **Subtle:** More restrained and consistent. Uses Legacy v2 voices.
* **Balanced:** Natural expression with more vocal variation. Powered by Eleven v4.
* **Expressive:** More emotional and dynamic. Powered by Eleven v4.

When you change the Expressiveness setting, ElevenReader regenerates the audio so you can preview it before saving.
